March 20th Show Cancelled (S4E6)

March 14, 2020

Due to the general concerns about the spread of Coronavirus we have lost our speaker and seen reduced demand for tickets.

In addition, due to the evolving advice on public gatherings and self-isolation, we cannot guarantee we can produce a show that is up to our usual standard.

This is the first show we’ve ever cancelled and it was a hard decision to make.

We intend to run with our other shows provided the situation improves.

Andrea Gaxiola, Robotic Hydrogels: On The Road (S1E1)

January 19, 2020

On February 22nd, the troupe headed west down the M4 to perform with Bristol-based troupe Rising Ape Collective to put on a double-bill of science-inspired theatre.

We were joined by guest speaker Andrea Gaxiola who did a talk on robotic hydrogels.

The talk inspired the players to create a series of comedy sketches where we encountered a woman involved in a 70-year staring competition with her sentient jelly-bots; unloved waxworks at M. Tussaud's being turned into candles; and robots made from Angel Delight!

Check out the show on our Show Archive page.

Amélie Beedham, Safety Engineer (S4E5)

January 18, 2020

Guest speaker for our February show will be Amélie Beedham.

Amélie is a Chartered Engineer, currently working as a Safety Engineer at Thales. She graduated from The University of Sheffield and, 15 years later, found herself married with children and questioning her gender identity.

She has transitioned over the last few years so is in the prigvileged position of seeing the world of engineering from both sides of the gender divide

Our new pizza base in Reading!

January 17, 2020

Following a successful trial this month, we are pleased to announce a permanent move of our shows to Thirsty Bear on King's Road in Reading.

Thirsty Bear's upstairs room has a projector and screen which enables us to incorporate new games into our sets.

It also has its own bar. And the cabaret-style seating means you can enjoy the show with pizza and ice cream!

What's not to like about that?

Matthieu de Carbonnel, Plant Scientist (S4E4)

December 13, 2019

Guest speaker for our January 17th show was Matthieu de Carbonnel, plant specialist and entrepreneur. His talk was entitled "The Secret Life of Plants".

Inspired by the talk, the Free Radicals improvised a world where "So You Think You Can Plant" is a popular show; the best gardener there is has six green thumbs; we visit Plantsterdam - but watch out for the shady light dealer!
